Jason A. Amello serves as Chief Financial Officer of Candel. He has over 30 years of corporate finance experience, contributing to strategic business growth and financial and operational performance. Prior to joining Candel, Mr. Amello served as Chief Financial Officer of Saniona AB, a biotechnology company publicly traded in Sweden, with mid/late-stage clinical trials, research operations in Copenhagen, Denmark, and U.S. corporate headquarters. While at Saniona, he led the company’s evolving and complex financial strategy, which included plans for a U.S. IPO, debt financing, the strategic reprioritization of R&D programs and restructuring of the company, including the shut-down of U.S. operations. Previously, Mr. Amello was Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of Akebia Therapeutics, Inc., where, over a seven-year period, he led Akebia’s financing efforts, including its initial public offering and served as a key advisor for Akebia’s merger with Keryx Biopharmaceuticals, Inc. Prior to joining Akebia, he was Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of Ziopharm Oncology, Inc., now Alaunos Therapeutics, Inc. Mr. Amello held multiple finance leadership positions at Genzyme Corporation, now Sanofi Genzyme, over an 11 year period, including Senior Vice President, Chief Accounting Officer, and also led the Strategic Financial Services group through which he served as a key advisor on all of Genzyme’s mergers and acquisitions and other strategic transactions from 2000 to 2011. Earlier in his career, he spent 10 years in the business advisory and assurance practice of Deloitte. Mr. Amello currently serves on the Board of Directors of the New England Baptist Hospital and is Chair of its Quality-of-Care Committee and a member of its Finance and Investment Committee. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Acer Therapeutics, Inc. (Nasdaq: ACER) and is Chair of the Audit Committee. Mr. Amello holds a B.S. in Finance/Accounting from Boston College and is a Certified Public Accountant in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
