Candel Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biotechnology company pioneering the development of viral based immunotherapies for the treatment of solid tumors. Summary:

Reporting to the CFO, the Senior Director of Information Technology leads the development, implementation and maintenance of the Company’s information systems to meet the Company’s strategic and business goals. This includes leading the development of Network Infrastructure, storage, servers, databases cloud computing, disaster recovery and backups, cybersecurity, privacy, telecommunication, and IT vendor management.

A day in the life of this role:

  • Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, upgrading, and support of all IT systems, including servers, routers, firewalls, and computers.
  • Supervise, implement, and maintain the company’s computing needs. Ensure the secure and effective operation of all computer systems, related applications, hardware, and software.
  • Develop the strategy for systems design and development – cloud, information systems, security, communication systems, etc.
  • Oversee IT operations, help desk, IT systems/applications, third-party providers including managed security service provider, and licenses/contracts/terms of service.
  • Develop, manage, and track the IT department’s annual budget.
  • Oversee design, estimation, and execution of project work plans. Direct revisions as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements. Determine the optimal mix of internal resources and outsourced resources to optimize functional and cost results.
  • Implement a robust business continuity strategy and ensure systems can meet capacity requirements and service level agreements, including availability, return to operations and recovery point objectives.
  • Define and execute a strong cyber security strategy, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of all IT & data assets.
  • Ensure that the IT processes are effectively designed, documented, operating and monitored such that there are no significant or material weaknesses in the IT controls related to financial reporting, including disaster prevention and recovery, and IT security.
  • Manage department employee(s), assist in performance feedback, goal setting and  provide development opportunities.
  • Plan and direct performance of internal IT team member(s) and external vendors.
  • Clear communications with cross-functional team leaders, and third-party providers; attend regular meetings and provide updates on IT related items and progress.
  • Manage all IT policies and procedures in accordance with Candel’s quality and applicable regulatory compliance.

 What we’ll need from you:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in information technology, information systems, computer science or related field.
  • 10+ years of related experience including management of the function and its employees; biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry experience preferred.
  • Deep experience  in  IT systems, networks, operations, cloud-based systems, security, and development.
  • Ability to work with cross functional departments to support systems for Regulatory, Clinical Research & Operations, Manufacturing, Quality, Discovery & Finance.
  • Extensive experience working cross-functionally, building collaborative working relationships and interfacing effectively with all levels of the business.
  • Strong leadership, influencing, vendor management, project management, negotiation, and planning skills.
  • Ability to inspire trust, respect, credibility and confidence of peers and colleagues.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills that include excellent decision-making skills.
  • Ability to adjust quickly to changing priorities and conditions and to cope effectively with complexity and change.
